CHARLOTTE Gilmartin enjoyed a weekend to remember as she came fourth in the second Ladies 500m final at the latest round of the short track speed skating World Cup.
Gilmartin, representing the Nottingham-based Great Britain team, crossed the line in a personal best time of 43.638 seconds, meaning she was faster than Elise Christie, who was fifth in the first set of final classifications in 43.703. Gilmartin was ninth in the 1,500m, while Christie was fifth in the 1,000m.
There was also success for the Men's relay team, who came third in a fiercely contested 3,000m final in Montreal, Canada. While Korea secured the win, a photo finish review was required to confirm the other two podium positions. Hungary earned second place with the GB line-up of John Eley, Jack Whelbourne, Paul Stanley and Richard Shoebridge taking bronze. Less than three tenths of a second separated the top three.
Shoebridge and Stanley also put in strong performances in the Men's 500m with Shoebridge finishing seventh overall and Stanley one place behind. Eley was 13th.
Whelbourne had to settle for 17th in the Men's 500m with the less experienced pair of Billy Simms and Josh Cheetham 32nd and 33rd respectively.
Having already been to Salt Lake City, USA, the World Cup resumes in Shanghai, China, on December 12 to 14.
