Regular bus users have expressed their distress following the brief closure of the Victoria Bus Station.

The station, which is connected to the Victoria Centre, will be closed for three days to allow the demolition of the car park at York House to take place.

Temporary bus stops have been placed in close proximity to the bus station while the work is taking place.

These are situated on Mansfield Road, Burton Street, and South Sherwood Street.

Michael Bradbury, 45, from the city centre, uses the buses daily in his job as a carer to visit various places across the county.

He said: "It's really confusing, I asked a bus driver for directions from one of the temporary bus stations and she was vague, as if she didn't know herself.

"We also have to walk further down the bus route to get to where we need to be.

"It's a hindrance and we don't seem to know where we are. Although it's only for three days, it's still a nightmare and a burden for us."

Godfrey Groves, 66, uses the buses at least once a week. He said that information regarding the temporary closure is scarce.

He said: "There's a poster in the centre letting people know what's happening, but other than that there doesn't seem to be much information readily available.

"I've come here to go shopping and it's messed up my schedule as I'm trying to find my way around the centre.

"It isn't really fair on the older people who have become used to their typical routes over the years."

Two demolition diggers were knocking the Mansfield Road building down as a substantial amount of people watched on and took photos in amazement on Wednesday.

Onlooker William Burns, 25, of Rushcliffe, said: "It's quite fascinating to watch. In terms of the temporary bus stops, I don't see a problem with it as they're quite close to the usual bus station anyway."

Steve Hunt, head of traffic and safety at Nottingham City Council, said: "During the next couple of days, essential resurfacing will be carried out to improve Mansfield Road.

"The closure of the bus station is to allow these projects to take place, and is designed to limit disruption as much as possible.

"We chose the half-term break to do it when the roads tend to be quieter.

"We will have staff next to the temporary bus stops to help people find where they need to go.

"We apologise for any disruption in the meantime."

The station will be reopened on Saturday October 25.
