COUNCIL chiefs say they are reducing the number of serious road casualties in the county.

Transport bosses from Notts County Council are aiming to reduce the incidents by 40 per cent by 2020 –and say they are on course to hit their targets.

The maximum number of casualties acceptable under the new target is 517 and figures released today show there were 345 serious or fatal injuries on the county's roads during 2013-14.

The figure for children killed or seriously injured during the same period was 28, compared with a maximum target figure of 54.

Council chiefs say road improvements and lowering speed limits have helped toward achieving the targets.
