POLICE and the RSPCA have been called to a special public meeting this morning to help determine why cats are being poisoned in Calverton.

More than 20 cats have been found dead in the village in a spate of alleged poisonings.

Anti-freeze has been found in blood tests on at least 13 of the animals.

Nick Lawlor, of Labray Road, held his cat Piper in his arms as she died.

"So many people have been affected," said the 43-year-old. "I looked up the symptoms of antifreeze being fed to cats and there was no mistaking this was how Piper died."

Mark Spencer MP is also attending the meeting at Calverton Baptist Church in Main Street at 10am this morning.(nov 29)

Around 40 people are expected to turn out at the meeting, which is open to all.
