HUNDREDS of jobs are set to be created to help businesses cope with the Christmas rush. High-street names in the county have started a recruitment drive to find enough temporary staff to cover the busiest time of the year. A small army of sales assistants, telephone operators and packers are needed for full and part-time work. Warranty issuing company Domestic and General will take on 85 staff at its Talbot Street office until February. Spokesman David Colley, said: "We have a large demand because customers are buying more in the lead-up to Christmas. Whether that's TVs, DVD players, mashing machines or cookers, a lot of people will be registering their products with us. In previous years we've kept up to 50 per cent of the Christmas staff on in permanent roles." Jenni Walker started as a temp three years ago and has since been promoted to a support advisor. The 23-year-old, of Carlton, said: "I think people who would do well would have good customer service skills and have that friendly personality to build a rapport with people. "Everyone who works here is really different, so it's nice to be in that sort of environment and anybody can do it." This festive season Boots will employ more than 200 people in the county to cope with the Christmas rush. A spokesman said: "Boots will be recruiting more than 6,000 permanent and temporary colleagues nationally across our stores. "A mixture of permanent and temporary vacancies, these roles will see a variety of new talent recruited in to our business with staggered start dates from now until Christmas.'' The temporary jobs on offer could also lead to full-time roles. George Cowcher, chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce for Nottinghamshire, said: "For businesses, it means they can provide an enhanced level of service to their customers and for jobseekers, it gets them back into the workplace.''
