Former Nottingham Rugby star David 'Jacko' Jackson donned a green and white jersey once again, as he made a welcome return to the club.
But on this occasion, the ex-fullback and winger didn't take to the pitch at Meadow Lane.
He instead had a well-earned rest, having just cycled 80 miles to be at the match.
Jacko was among 20 people who rode from Leeds to be at Nottingham Rugby's clash with Leeds Carnegie on Sunday.
The stunt was as part of the Nottingham Rugby Charity Cycle Challenge, which raised money for brain injury charity Headway.
Jacko himself had to retire in December last year after suffering a small bleed to his brain.
The 31-year-old, of Mapperley, said: "The money and awareness raised for the charity by doing this ride is going to make a difference to the lives of people who have suffered with head injuries.
"Our sponsors and supporters have been amazingly generous."
The group set off from Leeds' Headingley stadium at 5.30am, and arrived at the gates of Meadow Lane at 2.25pm, ahead of the 3pm kick-off.
Each cyclist wore a special cycling jersey in Nottingham Rugby's green and white colours for the ride.
The route took them through Wakefield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Clowne, near Chesterfield, before heading to Mansfield and on to Nottingham.
Jacko said: "On the ride we had one puncture and a couple of chains come off the bikes, but we managed."
Among those cheering the cyclists home were members of Mr Jackson's family.
His mum, Denise Jackson, 62, of Radcliffe-on-Trent, stood and applauded with her husband Peter, daughter Katie, and other relatives.
The mother-of-four said it had been an unusual way for her to celebrate Mother's Day.
She said: "I'm relieved they are back. His sister, his wife and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law were all riding too.
"I was worried but they have been texting me along the way. It's been nice as I've been able to see all my children together."
Of the fund-raiser, Mrs Jackson added: "It's fantastic what they've done and the amount of money they've raised."
Nottingham Rugby fans also gathered at the gates to cheer the cyclists' arrival.
Supporter Ruth Waterfield, 54, of West Bridgford, said: "It's typical of Jacko. If he wants to do something he does it."
Rhiana Lakin, fundraising officer for Headway, said: "We are absolutely thrilled that Jacko has taken on such a fantastic challenge for us.
"He has raised over £5,000 so far which is a phenomenal amount for the charity, and will go a long way."
An auction to raise further funds was held in the Meadow Lane Sports Bar after the match.
Items sold off included the final shirt Jacko wore during a league game for Nottingham.
