THREE people who have made outstanding contributions to Nottingham life are to be recognised at a special ceremony tonight.

The Nottingham Awards, now in its third year, acknowledges and celebrates the contributions individuals have made in three main areas: the public sector, the voluntary and community sector and the private and business sector.

The awards will be presented at the annual Goose Fair Dinner, which will take place at the Council House, in Old Market Square, at 9pm.

Councillor David Mellen (pictured), chairman of One Nottingham, the Strategic Partnership for the city, said: "The awards are a way of saying a public thank-you to people who, through their outstanding efforts, have helped make Nottingham such a great place.

"Nottingham is a city which thrives because of effective partnerships and because of individuals like the three receiving the award this year."

David Williams, chairman of Geldards – which is sponsoring the event – added: "We're very proud to have supported One Nottingham by sponsoring these awards, as they recognise the very best of what makes Nottingham such a vibrant city to live and work in."
