Shoppers will soon be able to buy one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery and furniture from Hucknall as two new businesses prepare to open their doors.

Simon Johnson and his business partner, Michael Marshall, have decided to combine their furniture-making hobby with their love of artwork to create Three Rooms, in Station Road.

The shop will open in September and will sell and restore furniture while reserving the top floor for an art gallery where local artists can exhibit their work.

Simon, of Three Rooms Bespoke Joinery, said: "We never planned to open a shop but when we started selling furniture which we had made on the side we decided to pursue the hobby. I think the furniture and art combined will give the shop a uniqueness - there's nothing like it in Hucknall."

Ria Cash, chairman of the Byron Community Project, and Tharmalingham Sritharan, owner of The Byron building, will also be opening their joint venture - BB's accessories - on September 13. It will sell everything from costume jewellery and clutch bags to tiaras and fascinators.

Ria said: "I want people to get used to coming in to the cinema. Some of the money will also go to the Byron project (which aims to re-open the cinema alongside the bingo hall)."

Other businesses to open up shop in the town centre over the last year includes Le Belle Nails and Beauty, Floral Boutique, Party Interiors, and Costa Coffee.

The most recent arrival is Lighthouse Charity shop, which officially opened in High Street on Saturday. Owned by Christian-charity Valley CIDS, it aims to help young people, families and schools, people with drug and alcohol dependencies and people with facial disfigurement.

I love Hucknall chairperson Sandy Singleton said the town centre may get even better once it is partly-pedestrianised in 2016.

She said: "It is fantastic that we have shops opening on our high street. We hope it [the pedestrianisation] will be even more shoppers to Hucknall."
