Supermarket chain Morrisons has opened the doors to its new shop at Nottingham Train station. The new shop has created 20 jobs and replaces what was a ticketing office. The store, which has taken three months to open, is part of the £50m redevelopment of the station. Other new tenants include Upper Crust, Costa Coffee and Gourmet Kitchen & Bar. The shop is one of the supermarket's "M local" convenience stores, one of three in the county so far including Aspley Lane and Carlton Hill. The chain invited Stonebridge City Farm and its mascot, Ermintrude the cow, to help publicise the opening and presented a £400 donation to the St Ann's charity. Nottingham commuters have reacted positively to the shop's arrival. Kerrie Martin, 25, from Hucknall had popped in to pick up a sandwich. She said: "It's a lot closer and better than Tescos. It looks like it's got more choice and the prices are better as well. "I usually shop in Morisson's big stores anyway, I always find its got everything I need." Pat Chibuta, 63, who commutes into Nottingham, was browsing the shop for the first time. She said: "I like the lay-out coming into the store, I think it's a good fit for the train station. "Other shops nearby aren't this open, you have to spend a while looking for things but here it's quite straightforward - they've made it simple and interesting." Sharon Thatcher, 41, from Attenborough said: "I think it's going to be a great addition - it's helpful if you're on your way to work as well." Morrisons' Stores Director for Convenience Miles Foster, who was at the launch, added: "We have been looking at on-the-move stores, petrol stations, but haven't opened in a transport hub before so Nottingham Train Station is our first. "It's a beautiful old building and how they've renovated it, the work they've done, is a real credit to the developers." The store will be open from 6am to 11pm every day.
