NOTTINGHAM Rugby players will become a regular fixture in offices across the city after the club was granted funding to deliver a workplace touch rugby programme.

Businesses can sign up now to take part in sessions.

Nottingham Rugby flanker Rupert Cooper, 26, said: "We will be guiding people through the basics of touch rugby.

"The sessions will mostly be about enjoyment and fitness. It's about giving people the tools to enjoy the sport."

More than 1,000 people regularly play the minimal-contact sport in Nottingham after touch rugby leagues were established in 2005.

Nottingham Rugby, in partnership with Sport Nottinghamshire, has been granted Sportivate funding from Sport England to deliver the programme during the 2014-15 season.

The club's operations director, Chris Simon, said: "Touch is an inclusive and very social sport which is suitable for both genders and all ages and abilities.

"The sessions can be delivered on a variety of surfaces at a time and location to suit.

"They'll be delivered by Nottingham Rugby community coaches, Nottingham Touch Club and members of the professional team.

"We hope that businesses will get involved and have a great time taking part."

An initial six-week introductory course will be provided as part of the programme.

Participants will then be directed to the local touch leagues if they want to continue playing. Ken Pollard, business development manager at Sport Nottinghamshire, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer up these sessions to workplaces as a way of engaging employees in workplace health. While focusing on the 18-24-year-old age group to meet the criteria of the funding, the sessions will be open to everyone.

"Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery funded London 2012 legacy project that gives more young people the chance to discover a sport that they love. The project has been so successful that additional funding has been allocated to allow the project to continue until 2017."
