Last night's rumble in the jungle between England and Italy may have left fans disappointed as the Three Lions lost their opening game 2 - 1 at Arena Amazonia, in Manaus.
But Nottingham's England supporters are remaining positive with some believing the team could be lifting the World Cup trophy later next month with their new more proactive game play.
Joe Sharratt, 30, of the Lace Market said: "Gutted to lose but there were some positives there for sure.
"Refreshing to see England so willing to attack, and our fate is in our hands.
"We need to improve in the final third but two wins and we still go through so chins up."
More than 15 million people stayed up to watch England's big game with the BBC reporting a peak of 15.6 million viewers just before half-time with more than 13 million watching to the final whistle.
Ian Wythe, 24, of Radford, said: "I think we played quite well but we didn't deserve to win.
"I think a draw would have been fair .
"I still think we can beat Uruguay and hopefully go through."
Bars across Nottinghamshire were experiencing a roaring trade with some die hard supported setting up camp as early as 12.30pm to secure themselves a spot in front of the big screen.
Sam McAuley, 24, city centre said: "I thought we played well, we started out strong and everyone got behind the team.
"We still have a great chance of getting through."
There had been some premature celebrations when a shot from Raheem Sterling appeared to hit the inside of Italy's goal only three minutes into the game - even the BBC caption writers thought so and amended the score accordingly.
However, the shot had actually hit the side netting and the score was changed back to 0 - 0 within seconds.
Dave Straw, 24, of West Bridgford said: "To have lost that game is bitterly disappointing. England may have been second best, but standout performances from Raheem Stirling and Danny Welbeck, among others, deserved at least a point.
"The realist in me says it'll be difficult to progress but that'll be easier to take after seeing this new-look, positive, exciting England."
The television commentary of former England international Phil Neville attracted attention on the social network, with the hashtag #PhilNeville trending.
Comedian Omid Djalili tweeted: "When #PhilNeville speaks am not watching Brazil, rather am transported to Butlins Skegness bingo hall"
While Tim Barrett said: "Will someone please give #PhilNeville the red card and put us all out of our misery. Please."
Nottinghamshire police said that "in general" fans were very well behaved during the England game last night and there were no "incidents of note to report".
East Midlands Ambulance Service saw an increase in calls for a couple of hours after the match ended with the majority being alcohol related including falls and assaults.
