The Nottingham City branch of the Liberal Democrats has said the national party should hold a leadership election. Members of the party met at the The Vine Community Centre, Bobbers Mill Road, on Saturday morning to discuss the future of Nick Clegg. The vote came after widespread discussion of the future of Mr Clegg following local and European election results. Other branches of the party across the country have met to discuss whether a leadership contest should take place, with both Cambridge and Southwark voting against. However, the results of the poll in Nottingham were 75 per cent for and 25 per cent against. Chair of Nottingham City Liberal Democrats Barbara Pearce said: "There are several local parties that have voted to support the current leadership and one that we know of that have called for a leadership election. This is our choice." The party president and chair of the East Midlands branch will now be notified of the decision.
