ESCAPING a top security military vessel might not sound like a typical day out but thousands are expected to do just that as an exciting spy-themed adventure centre opens in Nottingham. Si5 Spy Missions, a new major leisure attraction based in Rick Street near the Victoria Centre, aims to give you the opportunity to step into the shoes of an action hero for the day. Set on fictional battle cruiser the UNS Steadfast, you and your team must work together, solving puzzles and challenges, to stop a group of bad guys from firing a set of nuclear missiles. Each team is given a set of objectives to reach this goal, a set of tasks aimed at testing both physical and mental dexterity. Touted as suitable for both children and adults, it has been described as "The Crystal Maze meets James Bond", with three other centres across the country including Milton Keynes, Cambridge and Northampton. Si5 is the brainchild of creative director Bob Richardson, who got the idea after setting up a series of elaborate birthday parties for his children built around the spy theme. Mr Richardson said: "I had one set at an air strip based around a hostage setting. "They never knew what was going on and after people started saying you have to do this for more people." The idea snowballed, and with already 130 bookings made prior to the opening weekend in Nottingham, it seems to have been a hit. Mr Richardson added he was attracted to Nottingham's energy and thought it was the perfect place where Si5 could take off. He added: "I was looking round and when we saw Nottingham we thought it was so vibrant, my sister has lived here for a while and loves it. "The feeling you get from it is very real, you don't see any other group while you're in there, you get a feeling of being in the place on your own. "We get quite a lot of staff and team building here. Deep inside we all want to be big kids. "I have a sign over my desk saying if you get to 50 and you haven't grown up you don't have to – and I haven't!" Head of Business Development at tourism board Experience Nottinghamshire said it was an exciting new addition to the city. He added: "Nottingham's latest visitor attraction - the brand new Si5 Spy Missions - looks set to be extremely popular with visitors to the city and locals alike. This exciting and fun purpose-built indoor adventure centre will be the perfect venue for all occasions – from birthday parties to corporate team-building events. "It is a great family-friendly place to go and, as it is an indoor attraction, open all year round, it's not reliant on the weather to have a good time." To make a booking at Si5 call 08444 515 515
